Bass Guitar Amplifier – Watts
It takes more watts to amplify low frequencies that it does to amplify higher frequencies. That is why a 35 watt guitar amp will almost make you deaf but it takes a 400 watt bass amp to make your ears bleed. The more watts you have in your bass guitar amp the better the rich full bass sound you will achieve. A bass guitar amp requires a rugged speaker. When choosing a low powered practice amp, choose one with the biggest speaker.
Upright Bass Sounds
Many upright bass players and fretless bass guitar players will play many open sting notes within a song to help them play in tune. If you want your bass guitar playing to have that old slap bass sound, work in as many open stings into your bass runs as you can. You will be surprised how many different keys they will fit into.
Bass Guitar Pickups – Passive vs. Active
Many bass guitar players are now choosing active pickups for their bass guitars. An active pickup has a small pre amp built into the guitar and requires a battery. This active pickup allows for greater control over the EQ of the bass frequency giving a smoother, thicker, and fuller sound. This thicker, and more powerful sound is especially good for rap and dance music where the bass plays a very large part of the overall song. The passive bass guitar pickup consists of a magnet and a coil of wire. The passive pickup gives the bass guitar a raw and lively sound. This pickup will give greater dynamics. When you pluck your guitar string softly you will get a very quiet sound and when you really hit hard on your bass guitar string you will get a very loud sound.
Musical Instruments Bass – Alembic Bass Guitars
The Alembic Guitar Company started in 1969 making the finest bass guitars. These bass guitars are works of art; they are made from the finest pieces of wood. While known best for their bass guitars they also make guitars, preamps, and pick-ups. Alembic started the era of fine custom-made bass guitars. They pioneered active electronics (the guitars have a preamp and battery built in). Having a preamp built into your bass guitar gives you a wide choice of sounds and rich full tones. Alembic Guitar Company invented a lot of advanced circuitry for the bass guitar including phase cancellation. They engineered their phase cancellation by putting a pick-up deep in the body of the guitar. This is used to pick up the overtones that the strings produce in the wood and cancel out those tones or “phases”.
Learning to Play the Guitar and Bass Guitar – Right and Left Hands
The strumming hand on the guitar or plucking hand on the bass guitar needs to learn to work on automatic: the right side of the brain. When learning to play the guitar or learning to play the bass guitar you must train your brain to strum the guitar or pluck the bass guitar automatically. The strumming hand on the guitar has the ability to play extremely intricate finger patterns without even thinking about it. This hand should be able to pick out the strings and keep a real strong steady beat with no conscious effort. It’s very similar to a nervous habit. When learning to play the guitar or learning to play the bass guitar, the way to develop this technique is to start a real steady strum and concentrate on something else like reading a book or watching TV. Put your focus onto something other than your guitar.
On the hand that plays the neck of the guitar (this depends on whether you are right or left handed) you need to learn to develop a muting technique. A muting technique is when you are lifting your fingers slightly so the strings are muted while continuing to strum with your other hand. You then push down onto the strings to play the notes or chords. In this, you will be playing a rhythm on your guitar strings. Your concentration falls on this hand. Following this guitar lesson you will learn to develop a rock steady rhythm.

Musical Instruments Bass – The Electric Bass Guitar
Before Fender invented the precision electric bass guitar there was only the upright bass guitar. The upright bass guitar’s weren’t very loud and could be easily drowned out in a band. Fenders invention of the precision electric bass guitar revolutionized the music industry. Having an amplified bass guitar allowed the bass guitar to be a prominent part of any band. An electric bass guitar was also much easier to pack and carry. The electric bass guitar is a major instrument in most bands today thanks to Leo Fender.
